We enjoyed our talks this month, at the local East Dallas preschools and schools, about the benefits of eating healthy and its affects on your oral health. The kids learned that not only eating fruits, vegetables, and drinking milk is good for you, but, believe it or not, chewing gum can be too! SUGARLESS gum helps stimulate saliva and can help pull some of that pesky bacteria and leftover food from the chewing surfaces of your teeth. Chocolate milk isn’t so bad either…it is loaded with vitamins, which can help strengthen enamel also. However, moms and dads, you have to limit the amount of chocolate milk, as it does have a lot of sugar! Brush for 2 minutes, twice a day, and use kid-friendly toothpaste. My kids love the SpongeBob toothpaste. Adult toothpaste might just be too “spicy” for the kids. Don’t forget to brush your tongue! Not to mention, throw your toothbrush away if the bristles start to look frayed, and, if you’ve had a sore throat or a cold, get a new toothbrush when you start to feel better. That nasty bacteria or virus you caught can sit in your toothbrush. Here’s to your health!
